She travelled to the 1960 Rome and 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games and assisted Temple with the Women's U.S. Team. She coached 7 Olympic medalists and even more Olympic qualifiers.

Coach Smith's XC teams were dominant, too, during his era. The only time his boys team earned 2nd Place was in 81 and then went on a 4 consecutive year 3A XC Boys State Championship run (82-85). James Flack (class of 85) was the 3A XC State Champion 83-85 and also was on the 82 championship team as a freshman.
